Westfield Avenue
Westfield Avenue was the Burlington Turnpike, purchased by the government in May 1904 for $32,000. The only tollgate was at 36th Street. Westfield Acres, the first public housing in Camden, was built in 1936 at the 3100 block; it was demolished in 2000 and replaced by Baldwin's Run, with first residents arriving in 2003.

George Eisele purchased this home in 1892. It remained in the family through at least 1924. My mother told me there were orchards around the left side of the house. This area of Camden was called Stockton back in 1894, when my Grandmother was born there. Mom said she used to play tag running around the bushes in the front yard.

Reminds me of when I first rode my bike (about 1949) out to the end of Westfield Avenue past Cove Road, and caught the view of Crescent Boulevard… then New Jersey Route 25… sweeping past the diner and heading North to who knew what adventures. The view was just breathtaking; dual lanes in both directions with wide grass islands for medians.
