Introduction
Church Street is a one-block-long street that runs between Federal Street and Westfield Avenue in East Camden. The street dates back to about 1890, but the houses appear to have been built shortly afterwards. All of the homes appear to have been built at about the same time, more than likely by the same builder.
In the 1940s the Twelfth Ward Democratic Club had its clubhouse at 32 Church Street. In recent times the nuns from St. Joseph’s Church began operating a day care center at 17 Church Street, and the St. Joseph Carpenter Society has offices at 20 Church Street.

When Miss Marie Elsie Neumann yesterday became the bride of George W. Taylor, Jr., at 24 Church street, Camden, the ceremony was performed in the room in which she was born. Rev. Roland Ringwalt officiated. Miss Dorothy Griffith was maid of honor and Hugo Neumann was best man.

John S. Corkhill, 64, died Monday in his home, 38 Church street, of a heart attack, after an illness of 11 days. Born in Camden, he was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church. He was formerly a coppersmith at New York shipyard.
Surviving are his widow, Agnes; two daughters, Mrs. Emily Wilson, Philadelphia, and Mrs. Ruby Cox, Camden; four grandsons, three sisters, Mrs. Mae Cousins and Mrs. Emily Myers, both of Philadelphia; and Mrs. Catherine Bachman, Pine Hill; and two brothers, Adam, Camden, and Charles, Atlantic City. Services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. in the Sudler Eichel funeral home, 60 South Twenty-seventh street. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery, Woodbury.
