More than 50 relatives and friends shared in the celebration of the 50th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Charles R. Dahl staged last night at the home of the couple's son, Howard Dahl, 126 North Tenth street.
Mr. Dahl, who retired four years ago, was employed by the E. G. Locke Paper Manufacturing Company for more than 45 years. The couple live at 2721 Hayes Avenue.
Their marriage was solemnized at the old Second Presbyterian Church, Fourth and Benson streets, by Rev. J. William Boyd. They have another son, Bertram, a Navy department employee.

Edward Ott, 53, died Sunday at his home at 2732 Hayes avenue, following a six-year illness. Mr. Ott had been a resident here 25 years. He was an employee of the Philadelphia United Gas Improvement as a pipe-fitter for 32 years.
He was born and raised in Philadelphia and married to Mrs. Phoebe Ott 33 years ago. Surviving besides his widow are three sons, Edward, John and Albert Ott; four sisters; Mrs. Rose Mahaffey, Mrs. Kathryn Heck, Mrs. Lillian Tutton, and Mrs. Emma White; two brothers, Albert and William Ott and one grandchild. Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Thursday at his home. Burial will be in Locustwood Memorial Park.

The Cramer Hill Building and Loan Association meets this evening in St. Josephs Hall, 25th and Howell streets.
Matthew H. Vance and family, of 2839 Hayes avenue, were week-end visitors at Wildwood.
Mrs. John Frea and daughter, Doris, of 413 North 27th street, are visiting friends at Bridgeton.
There will be a meeting of the carnival committee of St. Joseph’s Church this evening in St. Joseph’s Hall, 25th and Howell streets. Further arrangements will be made for the carnival next week.
Joseph Shreeves, of the auto crew, Third district police station, is on his vacation, and expects to spend a few days at the shore.
Mr. and Mrs. William J. Kelley, of 2827 Pleasant street, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Kelley, are on a motor tour which will take in Niagara Falls and Canada.
Roland Kelley, of the Third district auto crew, is back on the job after a two weeks’ vacation.
Policeman Harry Newton, of the Third district, has started on his vacation and will spend the time at Seaside Heights.
Motorcycle Policeman William Boettcher is acting driver of the police auto while Joseph Shreeves is on his vacation.
David Mountney Dies; City Fireman's Father

David Mountney, 70, father of William S. Mountney, a city fireman, died Sunday at his home, 2818 Hayes avenue, following an illness of one week.
Mr. Mountney was a veteran resident of East Camden, and took an active part in politics in the Eleventh Ward. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 2 p. m. with burial in New Camden Cemetery.

My Mom, Barbara Lynn Erickson O'Neill, grew up at 2820 Hayes Avenue. As a child, my family would drive up to Hayes Ave. From Maryland…every 6 weeks! I have the fondest memories of staying with my grandparents Walter and Veronica Erickson. When I got a little older I would stay at my cousin's house on North 33rd street (The Bigwood family). I couldn't have asked for a better place to spend most of my childhood.

Gas Station Looted of Stamps, Radio

Gas, stamps were among loot stolen from one of two Camden gas stations entered by intruders last night.
John B. Hoover, Philadelphia, manager of a station at Wilson boulevard and Thorndyke street, notified police that thieves had forced entry into his station and stolen a table radio and gas stamps.
Guy Saporita, 2834 Hayes avenue, manager of a station at 801 North Twenty-seventh street, reported someone had forced entry to his station, but that he had not determined his loss.

William Mountney Sr., past commander of Cpl. Mathews-Purnell Post 518, VFW, has received a citation from the post for outstanding services.
The past commanders association of the post will elect officers at 8 p. m. next Tuesday at the post home, 2712 Hayes ave. The color guard and marching unit will participate in the Americanization Day parade at Jersey City on April 26, according to Orris Smith, commander.

New Captain Named

Seven of the 14 vacancies in the city’s fire department were filled yesterday and a new fire captain named by Public Safety Director Keith Kauffman.
Robert Olesiewicz, 47, was promoted from fireman to captain. He will be assigned to Ladder Company 1 at fire headquarters, 3rd and Arch Streets. Olesiewicz, who lives at 1194 Morton Street, has been with the fire department 15 years.
The seven new firemen sworn in yesterday were George C. Kurtyan, 21, of 2812 Hayes Avenue; Robert B. Shaw, 26, of 455 Morse Street; Richard C. Francesconi, 23, of 506 Rand Street; Nelson L. Savidge Jr., 25, of 2002 Howell Street; Thomas M. Prosinsik, 21, of 1381 Kenwood Avenue; Michael C. LaFrance, 22, of 488A Rand Street, and Kenneth Penn, 21, of 1773 Norris Street.
Fire Chief Edward Michalak said the new men will have a six-week training course before being assigned to various companies throughout the city.
He said the new additions will bring the fire department up to 180 men. The full complement is 187.

Funeral Rites Held for Nicholas Romaine

Funeral services were held yesterday for Nicholas Romaine, 48, of 2420 Mickle street, a member of Engine Company No. 11, Twenty-seventh street and Hayes avenue, who died Thursday of injuries suffered while fighting a fire nearly eight years ago. Services took place at the parlors of Gustav Roedel and Son, 804 North Twenty-seventh street, and burial was in New Camden cemetery. The following members of his company were pallbearers: Herman Dreas, Harry Hess, John Mohrfield, William Mountney, Michael Mungioli and John Peterson.
Romaine, a member of the fire department 13 years, was injured when a brick wall fell on him during a blaze in a junk shop July 27, 1925. Five other firemen were also hurt. He is survived by his widow, Pauline, two sons, Joseph and Nicholas, Jr., and two daughters, Mrs. Gladys Green and Frances Romaine.

Mathews-Purnell Post Members Awarded Order of Purple Heart
Two members of the Corp. Mathews-Purnell Post 518, Veterans of Foreign Wars, have received the Order of the Purple Heart, one of them with an oak leaf cluster, a special citation.
The honored men are John M. Peterson, of 1049 North Thirty-fourth street, who received the award with cluster, and Herman Dreas, of 1241 North Twenty-sixth street. Both are city firemen with Engine Company No. 11, Twenty-seventh street and Hayes avenue.
Peterson served with the First Division in France and was a private in Company D, 18th Infantry. He enlisted September 21, 1917, and was discharged September 23, 1919. He served overseas 22 months and was wounded the first time by machine gun fire in the leg July 19, 1918, in the Soissons Drive. He suffered a shrapnel wound in the right lung November 5, 1918, in the Argonne Forest.
Dreas served with Company C, 309th Infantry, 78th Division. He enlisted February 27, 1918, and was discharged January 19, 1919. He left the United States May 18, 1918 and returned Christmas Day, 1918. He was wounded October 19, 1918, by machine gun in the Argonne Forest drive.

Fire Radio Communications Procedures
SECTION 4, PAGE 5, ARTICLE D;
Units, when receiving an alarm, while out of quarters on radio, will acknowledge the assignment by stating that they are responding and by repeating the correct location, that was just given them by the dispatcher, back to the dispatcher.
SECTION 4, PAGE 5, ARTICLE E;
The Supervising Dispatcher in the Fire Alarm Room will secure a preliminary report from the first-in unit upon arrival, (in accordance with the Prompt Reporting of Fireground Conditions Form) a full and formal report of nature and conditions from the Chief Officer in charge or his designated aide within five minutes after their arrival on location, and a report of progress and conditions every ten minutes until the fire or emergency is declared under control.

Chief Officers or Aides will immediately report to the dispatcher their arrival on, or departure from, a fireground or location of emergency, on all assignments.

Whenever it becomes necessary for a company to cover-up for another company, and assume the correct identifying number of the company covered-up for, the procedure will be that, the company assigned to cover-up (relocate) will use their own regular identifying number, followed by the identifying number of the company being covered for, in conjunction with the application of the word “dash”. Engine 7 relocated to cover-up for Engine 9 will become available as Engine 7 dash 9. Battalion 3 relocated to cover-up for Battalion 1 at Fire Headquarters will become available as Battalion 3 dash 1, etc. Remember, use your own regular identity first!

To the Citizens of the 11th Ward, Greetings:
Since my first election to City Council, I did not consider the office a political one, but looked upon it as a Trusteeship for the people, and I now render you an account of my stewardship by presenting you the following record of my actions and achievements as your representative.
I have introduced and secured for the people the following measures.
A New Fire House for the 11th ward (26th and Hayes Avenue)
Contract for building this Fire House will be awarded at next meeting of the Fire Committee.
A Playground for the Childern [sic] of the 11th ward at Reservoir Park.
As President of the Playgrouud [sic] Commission, I secured for our childern [sic] one of the finest and best equipped playgrounds in the State.
A New Stone and Steel Bridge at Pavonia 11th ward.
After years of efforts and agitation on my part the Penn. R.R. have agreed to erect a modern Stone and Steel bridge at Pavonia, work to be begun on same in a few weeks.
Fifty-two Electric (Arc) Lights for the 11th Ward.
We now have 101 Arc Lights in the 11th Ward out of a total of 806 in the entire city.
New Washington School on Cambridge Street and River Road.
By always working for liberal appropriations for educational purposes, I have helped to secure for our ward one of the finest school buildings in the city.
Inlets and Street Repairs.
Inlets at River Road and Cambridge Street and foot of 27th Street, many crossing stones, repairs and filling in of many streets as far as funds of the Street Department would allow.
P. S.—Under the law, all pavements, curbing, gutters, street paving and sewers must be paid for by the property owners.
Two cent—Ferriage
I had a resolution passed requiring the Board of Freeholders to establish 2 cent ferriage; the matter is now in course of settlement between the Freeholders and Ferry Companies.
More Life Preserves on Ferry Boats
On my motion the City Solicitor was instructed to take steps to compel Ferry Boats to carry more life saving appliances
Better Trolley Service
As chairman of Council Committee for above, we succeeded in getting Public Service Corporation, to place in service twelve cars of newest and largest type, which is the beginning of better service throughout the city.
Cheaper and Better Gas
As chairman of Council Committee for above, I have succeeded in having the Public Utilities Commission of the State, send to Camden a machine for testing meters, as well as the quality and pressure of the Gas furnished to the Citizens.
Municipal Lighting Plant
Offered the resolution providing for the law establishing a City Light Plant
Better Building Laws and Fire Escapes
As chairman of the Building Commission, have secure [sic] the passage of better laws for buildings, and for better Fire Escape facilities for Factories, Work Shops, Schools, Theatres, Shows, etc.
Public Markets, to reduce high cost of living
Had committee appointed to take up question of building City Markets.
Recovery of Street Ends, Wharves, etc., for City
Offered the resolution, instructing the City Solicitor to begin suit to recover Street Ends, Wharves, etc. All suits finally settled have been won by the City.
Public Parks and Playground System
I have advocated a system of Parks for Camden to include Stockton Park, Pyne Point Park, Dudley Grange and Grounds, Park at Line Ditch and Broadway and Park in Southeast section of Camden.
Reduction in Cost of Street Lighting
Forced a reduction in the charge for Arc Lamps from $109.00 to $80.00 per lamp, a saving of over $15,000 past year.
Reduction in Cost of Street Paving
Secured a reduction in cost of street paving from $1.89 to $1.61 a square yard, saving annually many thousands of dollars to the property owners.
Sunday Sale of Ice, Milk, Drugs, Etc.
Secured passage of an ordinance permitting sale on Sundays of ice, milk, ice cream, cigars, tobacco, drugs, &c.
During my career I have always stood up for the people against the corporations, and voted and acted for the best interests of the city. I have done my duty without fear or favor, and now submit my record as Councilman to the intelligent, sober judgment of the citizens of the 11th Ward.
