RICHARD C. FRANCESCONI SR. was born March 18, 1942 in Camden.
Richard Francesconi was sworn in to the Camden Fire Department on January 31, 1966 and began his service the next day. He was then living at 506 Rand Street. By August of the following year he had moved to 3082 Carman Street in 1967.
Richard Francesconi left the Camden Fire Department on March 11, 1981. He lived for many years in Pennsauken, New Jersey.
Richard Francesconi died suddenly on January 26, 2018.

New Captain Named
Seven of the 14 vacancies in the city’s fire department were filled yesterday and a new fire captain named by Public Safety Director Keith Kauffman.
Robert Olesiewicz, 47, was promoted from fireman to captain. He will be assigned to Ladder Company 1 at fire headquarters, 3rd and Arch Streets. Olesiewicz, who lives at 1194 Morton Street, has been with the fire department 15 years.
The seven new firemen sworn in yesterday were George C. Kurtyan, 21, of 2812 Hayes Avenue; Robert B. Shaw, 26, of 455 Morse Street; Richard C. Francesconi, 23, of 506 Rand Street; Nelson L. Savidge Jr., 25, of 2002 Howell Street; Thomas M. Prosinsik, 21, of 1381 Kenwood Avenue; Michael C. LaFrance, 22, of 488A Rand Street, and Kenneth Penn, 21, of 1773 Norris Street.
Fire Chief Edward Michalak said the new men will have a six-week training course before being assigned to various companies throughout the city.
He said the new additions will bring the fire department up to 180 men. The full complement is 187.
Probe Set In Blaze; Two Hurt

Fire officials today were investigating the possibility of arson in a North Camden home where two firemen were injured battling a dual blaze last night.
Arthur Batten, acting battalion chief, asked for the investigation after two fires at about 7:30 p.m. damaged a front and rear bedroom at 223 Milton Street while the owner, Mrs. Patricia Gibbs, was out of the house.
Injured were firemen Richard Francesconi, 25, of 3082 Carman Street and Truman Maples, 24, of 1024 N. 35th Street. Francesconi was transferred from Cooper Hospital to Wills Eye Hospital, Philadelphia, for surgery to remove glass from his right eye. Maples was treated for injuries to his right leg.

Haddonfield United Methodist Church provided the setting for the wedding Sunday afternoon at which Miss Diane H. Horay became the bride of Mr. Richard C. Francesconi.
The Rev. Edwin F. Hann 3d performed the ceremony.
The bride’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. John W. Horay of Westmont. The bridegroom, of Pennsauken, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William T. Francesconi of Cherry Hill.
Maid of honor was the bride’s sister, Miss Eileen S. Horay. Acting as bridesmaids were Ms. Susan Barton of Westmont, another sister of the bride; Miss Dorothy R. Henry of Maple Shade, and Mrs. James F. Pacifico of Reynoldsburg, Ohio. Junior bridesmaids were Michele Francesconi and Maria Francesconi of Wenonah, daughters of the bridegroom.
Stephanie Briggs of Maple Shade and John Barton, nephew of the bride, were flower girl and ringbearer.
Best man was Mr. Robert J. Francesconi of Cherry Hill, brother of the bridegroom. Serving as ushers were Mr. William G. Francesconi of Cherry Hill and Mr. James J. Francesconi of Westmont, also brothers of the bridegroom, and Mr. Louis W. Morrell of Pennsauken.
A reception followed at Shannon Caterers, West Berlin. Mr. and Mrs. Francesconi, now honeymooning in the Poconos, will make their home in Pennsauken.

Richard C. Francesconi, Sr. a Pennsauken resident for 45 years, passed away peacefully in his sleep, on January 26, 2018, at the age of 75. He was born in Camden to the late William and Katherine (nee Erickson). Rich is the devoted husband of 41 years to Diane (nee Horay), beloved dad to Michele Epifani (Pasquale), Maria Velez (Jimmy), Richard and Antony, loving pop-pop to Nikolas and Gabriella Velez, and Nicolette Epifani, and best bud to grand-dog Gage. He is also survived by his siblings: William, James, Teresa and Robert.
Rich was a proud alum of Camden Catholic High School class of 1960 and a past member of the Camden Fire Department. He was a retired pipefitter with UA Local 322. For the past 10 years, Rich was a dedicated groundskeeper at Bay Cove, where he spent his summers in “heaven.” He was a past president and longtime coach at P.Y.A.A., football coach at Camden Catholic High School, a member of the Sons of Italy, the Villas Fishing Club and a S.A.L. member at the Oaklyn American Legion. Rich loved watching UConn Girls Basketball, going to the range and he spent hours antagonizing everyone on Facebook — No one was safe from his posts!
Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation, Thursday from 9:30 to 11 AM, followed by his Memorial Mass at 11 AM, at St. Joseph Pro Cathedral, 2907 Federal Street, Camden, NJ 08105. Interment is private.
