Dr. John T. Dorrance

Dr. John T. Dorrance, Ph.D., a brilliant scientist who, spurning the life of a university professor took a position with Joseph Campbell in Camden in 1887, whose company was to that time somewhat struggling firm among many engaged in canning and preserving vegetables and fruits. While with Campbell, Dr. Dorrance invented the condensed soup that made Campbell Soup a household name around the world. As brilliant in business as he was in science, he rose in the Campbell organization and was elected president in 1914.

Dr. Dorrance died on September 21, 1930 of heart disease at his home in Cinnaminson, New Jersey. He was succeeded as President by his brother, Arthur Dorrance. The Dorrance family still holds major positions among the stockholders of Campbell Soup.
