Introduction
DR. WILLIAM KEMPTON BROWNING was the son of Congressman William J. Browning, who represented Camden’s First Congressional District from 1911 until his passing in March of 1920.
After graduating from Hahnemann Medical College in 1887, he lived and practiced medicine in Camden until 1925, when he moved to Merchantville NJ. He had lived at 433 Linden Street, until the block was taken and razed to make way for the Delaware River Bridge, now known as the Ben Franklin Bridge, in the early 1920s.
Dr. W. Kempton Browning passed away on January 12, 1942 at the age of 67. He was survived by a son, Dr. William J. Browning II, and a daughter, Mrs. Levi B. Stiles, both of Merchantville. His grandson, William J. Browning III, also became a doctor, and was a family practitioner in Merchantville until 1974 when moved to Story WY, eventually taking a position with the Veterans Administration Hospital there.

Practiced Medicine in Merchantville and Camden for Past 45 Years
Dr. W. Kempton Browning, 67, vice president of the Pennsylvania Academy of Physical Medicine, who practiced medicine in Camden and Merchantville for the past 45 years, died yesterday in Cooper Hospital.
Dr. Browning was taken to the hospital two weeks ago suffering from pneumonia. His death occurred, when he was stricken with a series of heart attacks.
He was the only son of the late Congressman William J. Browning who served as First Congressional representative from this district from 1911 to 1920 and who previously served for 14 years as chief clerk of the House of Representatives.
Dr. Browning, who lived at 120 North Cooper street, Merchantville, graduated from the Hahnemann Medical College in 1887. He attended Dickinson Seminary and Central School in Philadelphia and Public Institute of Harristown. He was a native of Camden and lived there until 1925, when he moved to Merchantville.
Dr. Browning also was a member of the American Congress of Physical Therapy, a founder of and for 50 years secretary-treasurer of the Physicians Motor League of Camden and Atlantic counties, and Camden Lodge of Elks, Camden County, and South Camden New Jersey State Medical Society.
He also had served as medical inspector at both the schools of Camden and Merchantville. He is survived by a son Dr. William J. Browning, Jr., and a daughter, Mrs. Levi E. Stiles, both of Merchantville, and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Monday at the funeral home of Joseph Heim, Murray and Son, 408 North Cooper street.
