Introduction

Wildwood Avenue is in Camden’s Parkside section, running from Haddon Avenue to Park Boulevard west of Baird Avenue. Many prominent Camden citizens resided there at one time, especially in the 1500 block, close to Camden High School and what was at the time the county-run section of Forest Hill (aka Farnham) Park. Many fine houses were built on Wildwood Avenue beginning around 1915, with Camden businessman Andrew B.F. Smith playing a leading role in the development.

1400 Block of Wildwood Avenue

Kenneth S. Dannenhauer, son of Rev. and Mrs. C. W. Dannenhauer of 1405 Wildwood avenue, will play the role of Valentine in Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night,” to be given at Bucknell University next Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Dannenhauer, a graduate of Camden High School, is a liberal arts student at the university. He previously appeared this year in “The Night of January 16.” His father is pastor of Parkside Baptist Church.

As a result of a jitney accident on August 5 last, Mr and Mrs Joseph Ragan, of 1238 Vanhook street, Camden, yesterday began suit in Camden to recover $5,000 and $10,000, respectively, from Nathan Obus, the jitneur, of 1422 Wildwood avenue. They were being taken by Obus to their home, when, at Mt. Ephraim and Atlantic avenue, a motorcyclist speeded into the machine, the collision causing the man and wife to be toppled out. Both claim serious and permanent hurts.

Thomas M. Madden, Democratic attorney, of 1509 Wildwood avenue, was named to fill the unexpired term of John L. Morrissey on the municipal alcoholic beverage control board. Morrissey recently became an assistant U. S. attorney. His resignation from the local board, of which he was chairman, was accepted at yesterday’s meeting.

Sheriff's Sale notice for 1516 Wildwood Avenue, June 9, 1932

BY VIRTUE OF A WRIT OF FIERI facias, to me directed, issued out of the Court of Chancery of New Jersey, will be sold at Public Sale on FRIDAY, THE FIRST DAY OF JULY, 1932, at 2 o’clock Daylight Saving Time in the afternoon of said day, at the Sheriff’s Office in the Court House, in the City and County of Camden and State of New Jersey.

Being premises known as No. 1516 Wildwood avenue, and the same land and premises which Benjamin Levinson et ux. by deed dated February 1st, 1922, and of record in the Office of the Register of Deeds of Camden County in Book No. 500 of Deeds, Pages 225 &c., granted and conveyed unto Israel Boudov and Rose Boudov, his wife in fee.

The approximate amount of the decree sought to be satisfied by this sale is $9,158.86. Seized as the property of Israel Boudov, et ux. taken in execution at the suit of Kaighn Avenue Building and Loan Association of Camden, N. J. Raymond L. Siris, Sol’r. Dated June 9, 1932.

Forest Hill Park

1924–1927 Robert C. & Myrtle Baker (patternmaker). The Bakers lived in a house at the Wildwood Avenue entrance to Forest Hill Park. The Bakers and apparently the house were both gone by 1929, according to that year’s City Directory.
