Introduction
Holcaine Avenue, also referred to as Holcaine Street, is a small street that runs south from Webster Street to 420 Jackson Street. There were eight homes on Holcaine Avenue in 1924.
In September of 1932, Courier-Post reporter E. Allen Hughes wrote a three-part series of articles about the small streets, alleys, courts and places of Camden, including Holcaine Avenue.
By 1947 there were only five homes still standing on Holcaine Avenue. As of 2011 there were four houses still standing, all occupied and apparently well kept.

** Daniel Laughlin, aged 11 years, of 1190 Mount Vernon street, fell down stairs at his home last night, breaking an arm. He was taken to Cooper Hospital.
** A defective flue last night caused a fire at the home of Ola Olsen, 765 Woodland avenue, which did damage amounting to $500.
** John H. Weastell and Thomas Degnan, Assessors of Jersey City, have been investigating the methods of the Camden Assessors and getting an insight into the system in the latter city in determining property and land values. According to the North Jerseyites, Camden has a system that is a model for other cities of the state.
** The Tenth Ward Republican Club filed articles of incorporation in Camden yesterday, with the following trustees: Frank R. Hutchinson, J. W. F. Bleakly, H. G. Gordon, William D. Reel and Frank McNichol.
** One of the saddest cases of destitution during this winter was discovered yesterday at 124 Mickle street, Camden, where a mother and five small children were found without fire, food or sufficient clothing. The mother was Mrs. Mary Costello, a widow. Overseer of the Poor Jefferies was notified and quickly relieved the unfortunates.
** John L. Roberts, aged 54 years, of 1608 Holcaine avenue, Camden, was struck by a trolley car at Broadway and Atlantic avenue. Several teeth were knocked out, his head, face and scalp lacerated, and his shoulder dislocated.

Miss Thelma Roddy
Camden girl, who represented the Walt Whitman Grocery Store, was runner-up in the beauty contest held at Atlantic City by the National Association of Retail Grocers. Miss Alice Mae Ayres, of Tyler, Texas, won the title of “Miss Grocery World” and will compete in the Atlantic City Pageant, Sept. 5 to 9. Miss Roddy lives at 1608 Holcaine Avenue.
