Introduction
Corporal John J. Gorman
Corporal John J. Gorman was the son of John A. and Mary Gorman, of 1040 North 19th Street, in the Cramer Hill section of Camden, NJ. He had attended Camden High School, and worked at the Penn-Jersey Shipyard prior to being inducted into the United States Army in March of 1943. He trained at Fort Meade, MD and Fort Bragg, NC prior to being sent overseas in July of 1944. He joined the 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division as a replacement.
Corporal Gorman was killed in action during the siege of Aachen, Germany on October 2, 1944, at the age of 22. His death was reported in the October 28, 1944 edition of the Camden Courier-Post. A Mass was said for him at St. Joseph Catholic Church, on Westfield Avenue in Camden, NJ on October 31, 1944.
John Gorman was brought home aboard the USAT Joseph V. Connolly, arriving October 27, 1947. He was buried at New St. Mary’s Cemetery in Bellmawr, NJ in November of that year, where he now rests next to his parents and brother Paul Gorman.

Solemn requiem Mass for Cpl. John J. Gorman, 1040 North Nineteenth street, will be celebrated Thursday at 9 a.m. in St. Anthony of Padua Church, Twenty-eighth street and River avenue. Relatives and friends will meet at 8 a.m. in a funeral home at 2850 Federal street. Burial will be in New St. Mary’s cemetery, Bellmawr.
Corporal Gorman, son of John A. and Mary Gorman, of the North Nineteenth street address, was killed Oct. 2, 1944, at Aachen, Germany. He was a member of C company, Eighteenth Infantry of the First Army. He joined the Army March 6, 1943, trained at Ft. Bragg, N. C. and was shipped overseas from Ft. George Meade, Md., July 1, 1944. Before entering the Army, Corporal Gorman was employed at the Penn-Jersey Shipyard.
Surviving in addition to his parents are a brother, Paul, and three sisters, Miss Florence Gorman, Mrs. Margaret Sheller and Mrs. Marie Yeager, all of Camden.
