Introduction
Harry Dilman Day was born in Camden New Jersey on September 2, 1886 to John and Sarah Day. His father was a barber. The family was living at 115 Kaighn Avenue when the Census was taken in 1910. The 1910 Census shows Harry Day working as a tobacco salesman. He then was single and boarding at 119 Kaighn Avenue with George Tucker, who like Harry Day, had lived in that block since the 1890s. By 1914 he had moved to 306 Chestnut Street. He was then working as a clerk. Harry Day was single and still boarding at 306 Chestnut Street in September of 1918 when he registered for the draft. He was then working as a machinist at the Baldwin Locomotive Works in Philadelphia.
The 1919 Camden City Directory shows that Harry Day served as a member of the Camden Fire Department in late 1918 and 1919. By January of 1920 he had gone to work as a laborer with the railroad. He remained a railroad employee as late as the spring of 1942.
Harry Day married at some point after January of 1920. The 1924 City Directory shows Harry D. Day and his wife Bessie at 1215 Princess Avenue in Parkside. Fire Department records from 1931 show Harry Day was still living at 1215 Princess Avenue. He may have been injured during his brief time as a fireman, as it is indicated that he was drawing a pension.
By the spring of 1942 Harry D. Day had moved to 311 Crest Avenue in Haddon Heights, New Jersey. This remained his home until his passing in September of 1979.

Walter W. Selby, of the Third ward, who has been employed in the electrical department at the Carney’s Point Powder Works, has been appointed to the position made vacant in No. 3 Engine Company by the resignation of Anthony Paradise. He will go on duty to-morrow.
John Shaw, 236 Mt. Vernon street, a former member of No. 1 Engine Company, who resigned to go into the blacksmithing and horse-shoeing business at Front and Kaighn avenue, will again become a fireman, having been appointed to the vacancy in No. 7 Company caused by the resignation of Harry Day.
