Wellwood Memorial Park is located just a few blocks east of Route 130 on Maple Avenue in Merchantville, N.J. There is also a WWI monument there and a stone dedicated to two members of The Sons and Daughters of the Pilgrims who were serving in armed forces during WWII.
This park is dedicated in recognition of the patriotic spirit and loyal devotion of the men and women of this community who served the United States in all wars.

Memorial to Vets To Be Dedicated At Merchantville
Camden Courier-Post —
Dedication of a park as a veterans memorial will climax the Memorial Day parade of Frederick W. Grigg Post 68, American Legion, Merchantville, on Tuesday.
Wellwood Park, Maple and Linden avenues, Merchantville, will be the subject of the dedication in honor of all veterans of the community in every war.
Mayor J. Weer Chew will make the presentation of the park, which will be accepted by Post Commander Robert E. Heyman, in the name of all veterans. The site will be officially known as Wellwood Memorial Park.
Congressman Wolverton will deliver the Memorial Day address.
The parade will include a composite platoon from Ft. Dix, Gold Star Mothers, fire companies, Boy and Girl Scouts, Cubs and Brownies.
Col. William Frazee will be parade marshal.
Prizes will be awarded children for the best decorated bicycles, wagons and tricycles. Ice cream and milk will be served at the park.

HMTS Rohna
Six men from Camden, N.J. — Frank Ballerino, Michael Carr, Michael Yachus, Stephen V. Koscianski, Lewis Riondino, and Joseph H. Johnson — died together when the troop transport HMTS Rohna was struck by a German guided glider bomb and sank off the coast of North Africa. In addition, six other Camden County men — Jacob Kessler Jenkins and Carl Johanson of Pennsauken, 19-year-old Harry V. Taylor Jr. of Haddonfield, William McKeon of Blackwood, Merl Reagle of Lindenwold, and Elmer F. Day of Merchantville — also were lost that day. In total, 1,015 men were lost, but the story was never told to the families or the general public for over 57 years due to wartime censorship.
