Introduction
Staff Sergeant Elwood G. Cashman was born in Pennsylvania in 1922, the fourth son of William V. and Anne McFarland Cashman. His father worked as a machinist in the publishing industry. In 1930 the family owned a home at 129 Locust Avenue in Merchantville NJ. After being inducted into the Army, Elwood Cashman was assigned to the 55th Armored Infantry Battalion, 11th Armored Division. Seeing service in Europe, he was wounded and had received the Silver Star before being killed in action in fighting near Linz, Austria, on May 4, 1945. Elwood Cashman was survived by his parents and brothers Harold E., Calvin R., and Willard.
