Steve's Tavern
Alexander Shusko operated a tavern at 1800 Fillmore Street in Camden NJ in the late 1940s. By 1959 the bar was called Steve’s Tavern, after its owner, Steve Raczykowski, son of Camden businessman Vincent Raczykowski. He and wife Violet operated the bar under that name through 1979. The 1980 New Jersey Bell Telephone Directory lists the building as the Sanchez Bar. By the 1990s the building had been converted into a private residence. It remained as such until the summer of 2003, when a fire forced its residents out.

‘Stocking’ Bandit Hunt Underway
Police are searching for two armed bandits who early today held up the night clerk of the Oasis Motel, Admiral Wilson Boulevard, and made off with $104 in cash. According to police, John Manning, 60, of 2120 Watson Street, was alone in the office when two men wearing gray caps and stocking masks over their faces entered through a rear door. After Manning turned over the money in the cash register, the bandits forced him to accompany them, he said. When they reached the top of the ramp near Baird Boulevard, he was freed. The two bandits fled on foot in the direction of Park Boulevard.
Manning said one of the hold-up men was about 5 ft. 5 inches tall, the other 5 ft. 7 inches. Both were described as Negroes, about 25 years old.
An undetermined amount of money, including money collected for the New Jersey Sales tax, was reported stolen today by a South Camden tavern owner. Steve Raczykowski, owner of Steve’s Tavern, 1800 Fillmore Street, said he was unable to estimate immediately how much cash and merchandise were stolen.
Police said Clara Iaveccia, who lives in an apartment above the tavern, heard noises below at 5 a.m. and called police. They found a grating on a cellar window had been removed and a door leading to the bar forced.
