Introduction
Perry Street was a small street that ran from 1044 Line Street south for one block to Pine Street. It was the first street east of Haddon Avenue off of Line Street.
Perry Street is listed in the 1871 Camden City Directory and there were still homes on Perry Street as late as 1947. By the 1960s Perry Street and all of Line Street east of St. Mihiel Street, including Jane Street and Ringgold Street, had been razed and paved over to provide parking for Campbell Soup’s corporate headquarters.
C. Harry Bates and his family lived on Perry Street for over 40 years. His family was related through marriage to the Kilroy and Murphy families, who also lived on Perry Street in the 1920s and 1930s.

Mother of Ten Is Accused

Arrested together in a room, at 123 Federal street, Camden, by Miles Miller, a State Detective, Frank Dungan, 48 years old, of 504 Vernon street, and Miss Katie C. Beach, 41 years old, of 713 Perry street, were held in $300 bail each by Justice of the Peace Frank Sheridan, in Camden yesterday on a charge preferred by George Beach, husband by the woman of the party.
Mrs. Beach, the husband said, is the mother of ten children and that they have been unable to find her for several years. It was while he was ill in a hospital, he added, that a supposed friend of his “stole my wife’s affections.”

Charles H. Bates Sr., 89, died Thursday at the home of a son, Harry J., of 619 Spruce st. He was a native of Waterford and lived in Camden 60 years.
In addition to the son with whom he lived, he is survived by three other sons, Charles H. 2d, Walter and Elmer; two daughters, Mrs. Harry J. Murphy and Mrs. William Kilroy; 29 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren, all of Camden. High requiem Mass will be sung at 9 a. m. Tuesday in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. Friends and relatives will gather at 8 a. m. in the Schroeder Funeral Home, 715 Cooper st., where they may also call Monday night. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
