Branch Street is a one block street that runs from 1460 Broadway east to South 6th Street. It appeared on City Directories in 1878, and according to the 1906 City Directory had been referred to as Commerce Street up until some point between the publication of the 1888–1889 and 1890–1891 City Directories.

Policemen Stehr, Foster and Tanner about 1 o’clock yesterday morning raided the alleged disorderly house of Emma Dangerfield, on Branch, above Broadway, and succeeded in arresting the proprietress, Martha Zanes, Lizzie Heck, Louis Wilson, Walter Kelly, Frank Geist, Lionel Saulsman, William and Joseph Alloways, Eli Murray and William Heck.
At a hearing before the Mayor yesterday morning the men furnished bail for their appearance at court, while the women were locked up for a hearing to-day.
Phone Wire Marksman Held for Grand Jury — 500 Branch Street

William H. Filer, 19, of 500 Branch street, was held in $1000 bail for Grand Jury action when arraigned in police court yesterday on a charge of unlawfully firing a gun.
Filer was arrested when Raymond F. Locke, an investigator for the New Jersey Bell Telephone Company, said the youth put a number of telephones out of order by firing into a trunk cable at Broadway and Lansdowne avenue.
Filer admitted, police said, that he was shooting at sparrows.
Victim of an attack of heart trouble. George Levings, 52 years old, 505 Branch street, died in West Jersey Homeopathic Hospital late yesterday. John Smith, with whom Levings lived, told police the man came home during the afternoon and complained that he did not feel well. When Smith attempted to awake him for supper he found that he was unconscious. He died several hours later.

John Fitzgerald, 52 years old, was locked up in the Camden county jail last night on a charge of felonious assault on 13-year-old Mary E. Painter, of 513 Branch street, Camden. Mary E. Freeman was locked up as an accessory.
