Harry Obus
Harry Obus was born around the turn of the century in New Jersey. His parents were Jewish immigrants who had come from Russia. At the time of the 1920 Federal Census, he was living with his mother and sister Reba at 618 Federal Street in Camden. He was then working as a clerk in an office. He went on to own a gas station and tire business at 1198 Haddon Avenue, the corner of Wildwood and Haddon Avenues in Camden, known as Obus Auto Supply.
Harry Obus was active in Republican politics in the Parkside neighborhood, the Camden’s 13th Ward. He suffered a stroke on January 14, 1950, was taken to West Jersey Hospital, where he passed away on January 16, 1950 at the age of 50.
BAIRD TO ADDRESS HEBREW LEAGUE

David Baird, Jr., Republican nominee for governor, will make his final appearance in the current election campaign Monday night, in his “own home town,” when he will address a monster rally at the Hebrew Republican League, at the Talmud Torah, 621 Kaighn Avenue.
The Hebrew league reorganized formally at a luncheon in the Hotel Walt Whitman. Lewis Liberman, assistant city solicitor, was elected president; Sig Schoenagle, Samuel Shaner, Israel Weitzman, vice-presidents; L. Scott Cherchesky, secretary, and Samuel Label, treasurer.
Trustees of the league include Hyman Bloom, Mitchell E. Cohen, Benjamin Friedman, Jacob L. Furer, Isadore H. Hermann, Carl Kisselman, Edward Markowitz, Louis L. Markowitz, Harry Obus, Maurice L. Praissman, Samuel Richelson, Meyer L. Sakin, Julius Rosenberg, Jacob Rosenkrantz and Jack Weinberg.
In addition to former Senator Baird, speakers at the Jewish rally will include Mrs. Elizabeth C. Verga, Republican state committeewoman and vice chairman of the county committee; Congressman Charles A. Wolverton, Congressman Benjamin Golder, of Pennsylvania, and State Senator Samuel Salus, of Pennsylvania.

Harry Obus Dies At 50; Parkside Business Man
Victim of Cerebral Hemorrhage Was Active Republican
Harry Obus, prominent Parkside business man and Republican organization worker, died this afternoon in West Jersey hospital after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage.
Mr. Obus, who conducted a service station and tire business at Haddon and Wildwood avenues, became ill Saturday and was taken to the hospital. He suffered a relapse shortly after noon today and died about 1.30 p.m.
Mr. Obus, who was 50, is survived by his widow, Helen; a daughter, Mrs. Estelle C. Lisker; two sons, Elliott B. and Henry; two sisters, Miss Reba N. Obus, Camden real estate broker, and Mrs. Rachael McKnight, Quakestown, Pa., and two brothers, Mark, Pennsauken, and Louis J., Franklinville.
Mr. Obus was active in Thirteenth Ward and other GOP political activities, being a candidate for freeholder several times as well as the Republican city and county committees.
