Private David T. Borland was born in Philadelphia, PA on December 27, 1887, to Mr. and Mrs. David Thomas Borland. The Borland family moved to 2305 Howell Street in East Camden sometime in the 1910s. When he registered for the draft on June 5, 1917, he was working as a storekeeper for the American Can Company at Beach and Palmer Streets in Philadelphia, and living at 633 Maple Avenue in Audubon, NJ.

He was living with his parents at 2305 Howell Street in Camden, NJ when he was called to service on February 26, 1918. After training at Fort Dix, he was assigned to the 312th Infantry Regiment and went overseas in May of 1918.

Private Borland was killed in action on October 24, 1918 during the Battle of the Argonne Forest. He was survived by his parents, brothers James H., Raymond C., and George W. Borland Sr., sister-in-law Kate Borland, nephew George Jr., and niece Jenny Borland, all of the Howell Street address. His parents passed in the 1920s; however, older brother George Borland and his family still lived at 2305 Howell Street as late as 1947, and remained in the neighborhood until his death in April of 1969, having by 1956 moved to 11 North 24th Street.
