Private First Class Charles H. Pippett was the son of Thomas B. and Alice Martin Pippett. He was born in New Jersey in 1919. His early years were spent in the Cramer Hill section of Camden, as his parents lived with his mother’s family, the Martins, at 2746 Sherman Avenue, through April of 1930. Thomas Pippett worked sandblasting buildings. By 1940 the family had moved to 618 Roberts Court in South Camden.

Charles Pippett had married and lived nearby, at 617 Line Street in Camden with his wife Jean. A son, Charles Jr., was born in 1941. He worked for the New York Shipbuilding Corporation in Camden prior to being inducted into the Army in December of 1943. The Pippetts had been living at 614 Roberts Court when the 1943 City Directory was assembled.

After training at Camp Walters, TX, he was sent overseas in June of 1944. Charles Pippett was killed when the jeep he was riding in overturned in Luxembourg on Christmas Day, December 25, 1944. He left behind his wife, Jean, and two sons, three-year-old Charles Jr. and two-month-old Frank S. Pippett, who was born after his father had departed for Europe, his parents, and a brother, Robert J. Pippett. His parents were living at 618 Roberts Court when the 1947 City Directory was compiled, while his wife and children were living at 511 Roberts Street that year.
