CAPTAIN JOHN S. TWITCHELL was born in 1918 to Oscar and Hazel E Twitchell. The oldest of two boys, he grew up in Haddonfield NJ, where his parents owned a home at 120 Jefferson Avenue. His father was a sales agent. On the next block lived a lawyer's son, James Baxter; Charles Armstrong and James Baker lived nearby on Mountwell Avenue and Chews Landing Road, respectively. All would give their lives while serving in America's armed forces. John S. Twitchell was killed in action while serving with U.S. Army ground forces during World War II.
