William A. Barnhill

WILLIAM A. “BILL” BARNHILL served as a member of the Camden Fire Department for 25 years before retiring as a Captain. He was a member of 4th Platoon, Ladder Company 2 in the early and mid-1990s, before his elevation to Captain. When the 125th Anniversary history of the Camden Fire Department was compiled in 1994, 4th Platoon consisted of Captain Richard Marnin, Firefighter Lloyd Birdsong, Firefighter James Devine, and Firefighter Barnhill.

After leaving the Fire Department he moved to Statesville, North Carolina, where he passed away unexpectedly on February 16, 2008 at the age of 60.

Suddenly, on Feb. 16, 2008, of Statesville, NC, formerly of Atco, NJ, age 60 years.

Husband of Helen (nee Mayer). Stepson of Norman Grimes. Father of Lauren Tracey and her husband Richard of the U.K. Brother of Patricia Lamber and her husband Richard of Reading, PA. Grandfather of Joshua Tracey. William is also survived by his dear friend Bonita Schimanski.

Bill proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He served with the Camden City Fire Dept. for 25 years, and retired as Captain.

Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation with his family on Tuesday, February 26, 2008, from 6:00 to 8:00pm at the LEROY P. WOOSTER FUNERAL HOME 441 White Horse Pike, Atco, NJ 08004. Services will begin at 8:00pm. Interment was private at the request of the family. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Bill’s memory to the Burn Center at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, 1201 Chestnut St. Phila., PA 19107.
