Introduction
Lloyd G. Birdsong Jr. was the son of Annie and Lloyd Birdsong. Born in Burlington County, his family moved to Camden in 1945. Besides Lloyd the family included four brothers and three sisters. One of his sisters, Cindy Birdsong, went on to a highly successful career as a singer, first with Patti Labelle and the Bluebelles, and later as a member of The Supremes.
On January 3, 1969 Lloyd Birdsong Jr. was appointed to the Camden Fire Department. He went on to serve as a Camden Fire Fighter for more than 26 years, retiring on November 1, 1995.
Last a resident of Moorestown, New Jersey, Lloyd G. Birdsong Jr. passed away on June 17, 2013 at the age of 70.

Six Camden men started basic training to become firemen today.
The six recruits bring the Camden Fire Department to full complement, according to Fire Chief Edward V. Michalak.
They are Thomas S. Watson Jr. of 1022 N. 24th St., Lloyd W. Henshall of 1153 Bergen Ave., Lloyd G. Birdsong of 2103 S. 9th St., Leon J. Johnson of 2981 Alabama Rd., Richard P. Williams of 507 S. 6th St. and Curtis J. Britt of 1144 Marion St.
