Technical Sergeant Warren Pershing Harbison
Sergeant Warren P. Harbison was born in Camden, NJ on August 30, 1919, to Warren Grant Harbison and his wife Minnie. He made his home at 785 Line Street. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1939, and saw action in the Pacific during World War II, where he earned the Purple Heart.
Sergeant Harbison remained in the Marine Corps after the war. He was killed in an automobile accident while on active duty at Camp Lejeune, NC, on October 26, 1947.
Warren P. Harbison’s grandmother, Hannah Roberts Harbison, was the sister of Joseph E. Roberts Sr., a prominent builder of houses in Camden and elsewhere in New Jersey from the 1870s into the 1900s.
Military Rites Set For Sgt. Harbison

A full military funeral will be held Friday for Sgt. Warren P. Harbison, 28, of 785 Line street, who was killed last Sunday in an auto accident at Camp Lejeune N.C.
The service will be held at 10 a.m. in a funeral home at Chambers avenue and Washington street. Burial will be in Beverly National cemetery.
A native of Camden, he graduated local schools and enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1939. During the war he was wounded in the South Pacific and awarded the Purple Heart. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Dolores Harbison, of Philadelphia; and a brother, Ronald, of the Line street address.
Sergeant Harbison was a member of Army-Navy Union, Garrison 52; Camden Aerie 65, Fraternal Order of Eagles. Camden Post No. 980 VFW and the American Legion.
In addition to the Purple Heart, Sergeant Harbison held the Asiatic Medal with one combat star, Presidential Unit Citation, Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Medal, American Campaign Medal and the Victory Medal.
