Introduction
Steward’s Mate First Class Thomas Andino Sharp was born in New Jersey around 1914, one of at least seven children born to Harry and Virginia Sharp. When the census was taken in 1920, the family lived at 2110 South 10th Street in Camden NJ.
When the census was taken in April of 1930 Thomas Sharp lived with his mother, Virginia Sharp, older brother Harry and younger sister Viola at 1703 South 10th Street, in Camden’s Centerville neighborhood. This property was acquired by the Housing Authority of the City of Camden and the home was razed to make way for the Dr. Clement T. Branch Village public housing project.
Thomas Sharp later married Adelle Mincy. During World War II, Thomas Sharp served in the United States Navy, reaching the rank of Steward’s Mate First Class. Sadly, he died while still in uniform on November 23, 1945, of causes not related to combat, leaving his widow, of 718 Central Avenue, Camden. He was brought home and buried at Sunset Memorial Park in Pennsauken, New Jersey.
