ROBERT W. WHITNEY was born in Camden, New Jersey on October 14, 1920 to Robert and Carrie Whitney. When the 1947 Camden City Directory was compiled he was working for the Post Office as a letter carrier and living at 1734 Van Buren Street.
On January 1, 1951 Robert W. Whitney was appointed to the Camden Fire Department, and after training was assigned to Engine Company 8. By 1952 he had moved to 731 Powell Court. He later moved to 1145 Langham Avenue.
Robert W. Whitney retired from the Camden Fire Department on May 1, 1974. Last a resident of Camden, he passed away on May 16, 1984.
Three Firemen Burned In Fighting Blaze

Three firemen were burned Saturday while fighting a fire in a one-story building on Crestmont avenue, near the Pennsylvania-Reading Seashore Lines tracks.
The fire started in a metal building owned by James F. McGraw Co., general contractors, in which equipment and lubricants were stored.
The firemen, all members of Engine Co. 8, were hosemen Robert Whitney, 31, of 731 Powell street; Andrew Foreman, 31, of 214 North Twenty-eighth street and Leonard Oshushek, 33, of 1639 Pulaski street. They were treated at West Jersey hospital. The blaze fas [sic] fought under direction of Capt. Henry Zook.

Robert W. Of 1145 Langham Ave., Camden. Age 63 years. On May 16, 1984. Camden City Fireman for twenty-two years. Vestryman of St. Augustine Episcopal Church. Survived by his wife, Marion, one son, Robert, one daughter, Lynn Whitney Krebs, eight grandchildren, one sister, Venie Tervalon. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend Mass on Monday at 8 p.m. at St. Augustine Episcopal Church, Broadway and Royden St., Camden, where friends may call after 6 p.m. Interment Lakeview Memorial Park, Cinnaminson.
