Robert C. Trublood
Technician Fourth Class Robert C. Trublood was born in 1916 in Pennsylvania to Edward and Estella Trueblood. By 1918 the family had come to Camden NJ, where son Howard was born late in the year. At the time of the 1920 census, the Trueblood family was renting a home at 1835 South 8th Street in Camden NJ, where the elder Trueblood was working as a laborer at a steel works, most likely the nearby Camden Forge. At some point after 1920 the family began using the “Trublood” spelling.
The Trueblood family had moved to 1820 Kossuth Street by the time the 1923 City Directory was compiled. Edward Trueblood died shortly afterwards, as Estella is listed as a widow in the 1924 edition. The 1930 census shows the family at 1731 Kossuth Street, and that there were two daughters in the home, Ethel, 8, and Edith, 5.
Robert Trublood attended the Charles W. Sumner Elementary School at South 8th and Jackson Streets. He graduated from the 8th grade there in June of 1933.
Robert Trublood was inducted into the United States Army. Assigned to the 590th Ambulance Company, he landed in France shortly after D-Day, June 6, 1944. The ambulances of the 590th were among the first to reach Bastogne during the Battle of the Bulge.
Technician Fourth Class Robert C. Trublood died while serving with the United States Army in Europe on February 24, 1945. He is buried in Luxembourg. He was survived by his mother and brother Howard Trueblood, of 2143 South 8th Street in Camden. The Truebloods were among the first residents of Chelton Terrace, a public housing project built during the war and opened in 1944 at South 7th Street and Chelton Avenue in Camden NJ.

12 To Be Promoted at Sumner School

Promotion exercises will be held tonight for the Eighth Grade A at Sumner School, Eighth and Jackson Streets.
Certificates will be presented to 12 students graduating into high school by George L. Eggleston, principal.
George Dorsey, president of the Sumner School Parent-Teacher Association, will address the graduates.
Pupils graduating are: Woodrow Amos, Wilson Hightower, James Murrell, Robert Trublood, Evelyn Bayard, Jessie Coleman, Alberta Foye, Rosella Hammond, Marjorie Hopkins, Emma Holmes, Jessie Thorne, Elizabeth Wright.
