Introduction
MAURICE H. SWOPE was the son of Charles Swope Jr. and Anna Husman Swope. His grandfather, Charles Swope Sr., for many years owned a marble monument business in Camden, and at one time had been a member of the Camden Fire Department. Maurice Swope’s father was a painter. He was killed when he fell from scaffolding in 1916. Tragically, Maurice Swope also lost his life when he fell from the front porch roof of his home on April 20, 1949.
Pennsauken Man Fatally Hurt in Porch Roof Fall

Maurice H. Swope, 42, of 3765 King avenue, Pennsauken township, father of three children, was injured fatally yesterday when he fell from the front porch roof of his home.
Swope was taken to Cooper hospital and placed in an oxygen tent, but died without regaining consciousness. Doctors said he suffered a fractured skull and possible fracture of the neck.
Coroner Blake issued a certificate of accidental death.
Swope’s neighbor, Augusto Tornari, 37, of 3763 King avenue, narrowly missed being struck by Swope as he fell. He heard a noise, saw Swope falling and stepped aside as the victim’s body landed at his feet.
Swope, an accountant for the Provident Mutual Life Insurance Co., is survived by his widow, Dorothy, and the three children, Dorothy, 16, and six-year-old twins, Joanne and Maurice C. Swope.

Requiem high Mass for Maurice H. Swope, 42, of 3765 King avenue, Pennsauken, will be celebrated tomorrow at 9 a.m. in St. Joseph’s R. C. Church, Twenty-ninth street and Westfield avenue. Relatives and friends will meet at 8 a.m. in the residence, where friends may call tonight. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery under direction of Paul R. Rilatt. Mr. Swope died Sunday in Cooper hospital of injuries suffered when he fell from the front porch roof of his home. A native of Camden, he lived in Pennsauken 25 years. He was an accountant for Provident Mutual Life Insurance Co. and was a member of the Holy Name Society and the Arcade Building & Loan Association. Surviving are his widow, Dorothy M.; three daughters, Dorothy, Betty Jean and Joanne; a son, Maurice C., and a sister, Mrs. Miriam Bierling.
