Maurice Brahen

Sergeant Maurice Brahen was born in Camden NJ in 1918 to Samuel and Minnie Brahen. The Brahens had both emigrated as teenagers from Russia, had met in the United States and had married and started a family. In 1920 the family was living at 755 Ferry Avenue in Camden NJ, and Samuel Brahen was operating a butcher shop with his brother. Maurice was the sixth child, with Jennie, Joseph, Tilly, Abraham, and Leonard coming before him. Business was good for Samuel Brahen, the family had moved by 1930, and by the 1940s the family had moved into a home at 2214 Baird Boulevard in East Camden. He had married, and lived at the Baird Boulevard address with his wife Sarah.

Sergeant Maurice Brahen had already been awarded the Bronze Star when he was killed in action on December 28, 1943. He was awarded the medal again, along with the Purple Heart.
