JAMES FRANCIS GALLAGHER was born April 15, 1941 to Vincent and Theresa Gallagher in Macadoo, Pennsylvania. The family was living at 1113 Louis Street when the 1947 Camden City Directory was compiled. Vincent Gallagher was then working as a mechanic.

James F. Gallagher was appointed to the Camden Fire Department on July 15, 1968 and reported for duty the same day. He made his home at 2710 Lincoln Avenue in Camden’s Cramer Hill section with his wife Louise.

James F. Gallagher retired on pension on September 1, 1991. He passed away on August 5, 1996.

Eleven Recruits Join Fire Dept.

New Camden Fire Department recruits being sworn in, July 15, 1968

Eleven men today were sworn in as members of Camden’s Fire Department. But despite the additions, the city’s force still remains at six men less than full strength, Fire Chief Edward Michalek Sr. noted.

New firemen from Camden are John J. Nicholson, 22; Howard P. Murphy, 23; Joseph A. Broccoli, 28; Michael J. Deets, 21; Donald Jankiewicz, 21; Robert Allen, 24; Parris Branch, 24; Joseph Rotchford, 22; James Gallagher, 27; and George Jackson, 29.

Another new member of the force is Ronald Kowalski, 27, of Audubon. The recruits will undergo a six-week training period.
