Biography
Herbert F. Lokan
Private First Class Herbert F. Lokan lived at 3719 Drexel Avenue in Pennsauken NJ with his mother, Mrs. Caroline H. Lokan. He worked as a cook at the Chimney House restaurant at the junction of Routes 38 and 70 in Pennsauken. He enlisted in the United States Army on October 21, 1942.
Herbert Lokan volunteered for parachute duty. He went overseas as a member of the 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment on December 26, 1943. Private Lokan parachuted into France on D-Day, June 6, 1944. He was killed in fighting near Blosville, France on June 13, 1944.
Herbert Lokan was brought home to New Jersey in the spring of 1948. He was buried at Bethel Memorial Park on Cove Road at Westfield Avenue in Pennsauken NJ on May 6, 1948. He was survived by his mother, a sister, Mrs. Elsie Moore, of Philadelphia, and a brother, Richard Lokan, of Camden NJ.
A cousin, First Lieutenant William E. Aron, of Oaklyn NJ, was also lost during WWII.

Military rites and services for Pfc. Herbert F. Lokan, of 3719 Drexel avenue, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Clarence J. Elchel funeral home, 60 South Twenty-seventh street, where friends may call tomorrow night. Burial will be in Bethel Memorial park, with honors by Pennsauken Post 125, American Legion, commanded by Clarence Guenther.
Private Lokan was 21 when he was killed in action at Blosville, France, on June 13, 1944. He was a member of the 508th Parachute Infantry, 82nd All-American Airborne division. He enlisted Oct. 21, 1942, and went overseas Dec. 26, 1943. Prior to enlisting, he was a cook at Chimney House.
Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Caroline H. Lokan; a brother, Richard, Camden, and a sister, Mrs. Elsie Moore, Philadelphia.
