WILLIAM SUDERS was born in New Jersey in 1856, the son of Samuel and Letitia Suders. The family was living in Camden's South Ward when the Census was taken in 1870. At that time the family consisted of Samuel and Letitia Suders, William Suders and his brothers Samuel and Aaron. Both William and his brother Samuel Suders appear to have been somewhat rambunctious and there were occasional brushes with the law. Samuel seems to have made a habit of it, as evidenced by newsclippings of the day. William Suders appears in City Directories from 1878-1879 through 1883-1884 living in the 300 block of Spruce Street. The 1878-1879 edition show him at 324 Spruce Street. The 1879-1880 Directory lists him at 314 Spruce.

On April 5, 1882 William Suders was appointed to the Camden Fire Department to serve as an extra man with Engine Company 2, replacing George Frost. William Suders served with the Fire Department for one year, then was replaced by Charles Fitzsimmons. The 1884-1885 and the 1885 City Directories show William Suders at 316 Line Street. He is listed at 324 Spruce Street in the 1887-1888 Directory, then from 1888-1889 through the 1893-1894 editions his address was given as 322 Spruce Street. He reportedly also spent some time on Joint Alley in December of 1889. William Suders remarried around 1892. His wife Anna blessed him with two daughters, Mary in July of 1893, and Anna in April of 1894. William Suders moved to 320 Joint Alley in 1894 and remained their through 1898. The 1899 City Directory states that William Suders lived at the foot of Spruce Street. The 1900 Census shows William Suders residing at 325 Division Street with his wife and daughters, working as an iceman. His address was 348 Joint Alley when the 1906 Directory was compiled. The 1910 Census shows William Suders, then a widower, living at 344 Joint Alley with his mother, brother Samuel, nephew Charles, daughter Anna, and brother-in-law Frank Peterson.
