JOHN E. "JACK" MAHER was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on October 4, 1937 to Joseph F. Maher and his wife, the former Mary Ann Carlin O'Toole. He was a graduate of Northeast Catholic High School in Philadelphia. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, and served three years, from January 21, 1957 until January 20, 1960. Jack Maher was hired at 32 years of age on November 3, 1969 and retired January 1, 1997, serving the City of Camden for over 27 years. In the early 1990s he served with First Platoon, engine company 3 alongside captain Thomas Stammerjohann and firefighters Ronald Crowder and Donald Jankiewicz. He finished his career with Ladder Company 3 in East Camden. Jack Maher's last years were spent as a resident of Newark, Delaware. He passed away on November 17, 2018. |
