Anthony Gentile

Anthony Gentile the son of Mr. and Mrs. Alfonso Gentile, the only son among six children. The Gentile family lived for many years in the corner house at South 5th and Line Street, which carried two street addresses, 444 Line Street and 701 South 5th Street, before moving to Delaware Township in 1951. Known to family and friends as Tony, he was a 1937 graduate of Camden High School and received his law degree from South Jersey Law School in 1942. He pursued a career in real estate however, and was associated with Sabba Verdiglione when he was tragically killed in a one car accident early on the morning of August 30, 1954 on the Black Horse Pike near Folsom NJ. He was survived by his parents, with whom he had lived with, at 39 Highland Avenue in Delaware Township (present-day Cherry Hill) NJ and his sisters. His sister Gilda was the wife of Mesrob Avedissian, who for many years owned Crystal Cleaners at 1012 Broadway in Camden.

When an automobile skidded at Fourth and Walnut Streets, last night, a pedestrian was injured. Tony Gentile, 17, of 442 Line Street, told police he attempted to apply his brakes and his car swerved into Samuel Ranier, 47, of 413 Pine Street. Ranier was taken to Cooper Hospital by Gentile, where he was treated for bruises of the leg and thigh. No charges were preferred against Gentile.
