Emmanuel Baptist Church
Emmanuel Baptist Church stood at the southwest corner of South 4th Street and Mt. Vernon Street in Camden. The congregation was originally organized as the Second Baptist Church in 1848. In 1890 the church was renamed Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, and in 1894 it was reorganized under the name Emmanuel Baptist Church. The property was sold to Baptist Temple in 1920.

Too Many Original Packages at a Party.

A party at Joseph Flanigan’s house, on Middle street, above Second, on Thursday night, had a battalion fight in it. The party was large, and some brought “original packages” that made them merry and belligerent. Robert Miller and Edward Bates had a row, and Dennis Corbit and John Flansburg had another. A squad of police from the Fourth street station house settled the trouble.
The Mount Vernon Baptist Church has been organized at the corner of Fourth and Mt. Vernon streets. The congregation was formed from the Second Baptist Church. Rev. John Snape is the pastor.
The Sixth ward school is overcrowded, and many children have been turned away. Superintendent Garwood has been written to on the subject.

IN CAMDEN’S CHURCHES
The week of prayer in Camden will be observed with meetings in two churches daily at 3.30 P. M. The meetings were inaugurated yesterday in the First Presbyterian and Emmanuel Baptist Churches. The former was addressed by Rev. J. W. Lyell, and the latter by Rev. J. S. Heisler.
Camden Lodge, No. 203, B. P. O. Elks, attended divine service at Trinity Baptist Church last evening, when the pastor, Rev. Dr. Clarence A. Adams, preached for their special benefit.
Two distinguished divines from Crozier Seminary occupied the pulpit of the Wynn Memorial Church yesterday. Rev. H. G. Weston, D. D., president of the Seminary, preached in the morning, and Dr. Vedder in the evening.
Rev. A. G. Lawson, D. D., pastor of the North Baptist Church, scored Camden’s law-breakers in a prelude to his sermon last evening.

REV. DAVIS WANTED BY THREE CHURCHES
Rev. Dr. Quinton Chew Davis has resigned as pastor of the Emmanuel Baptist Church, Fourth and Mt. Vernon streets, Camden. The resignation takes effect December 20. He has received calls from churches in Philadelphia and New York. He succeeded Rev. John Snape at the Emmanuel Baptist Church, coming from Cumberland, Md. He has been in Camden four years.
