GIRARD
PLACE was a short, dead end street that runs east from 916
St.
John Street. Girard Place first appears in Camden City Directories
in 1890. By that year eleven homes had been built. It was later extended out to Newton
Avenue after
the frame dwellings at 915 Newton
Avenue were razed. By 1947 only five were standing, and only one,
570 Girard Place, was standing an occupied by 1980. This home was still
standing and occupied in 2016. Girard Place as a street has disappeared,
with 570 Girard Place only accessible from
Newton
Avenue. |
