Introduction
Martin’s Bar occupied 732 Morgan Boulevard, one of the stores in the strip shopping center at the corner of South 8th Street and Morgan Street. Martin’s Bar appears to have first opened for business sometime between 1956 and 1959, when it appears in the New Jersey Bell Telephone Directory.
Martin Ginsburg was the Martin for whom the bar was named. He appears in the 1947 Camden City Directory as a salesman, living with his wife Blanche at 1404 Park Boulevard in the Parkside section of Camden, a short walk from Camden High School, Farnham Park, and Congregation Beth El. The Ginsburgs remained in Camden through 1959. By 1970 they had moved to 1 MacArthur Boulevard in Westmont NJ. The Ginsburgs are not listed in the 1977 New Jersey Bell Telephone Directory, but the bar, which had previously appeared under Martin Ginsburg’s name, is listed as Martin’s Bar.
Martin’s Bar would remain at 732 Morgan Street until around 2001, when it relocated to 2461 South 7th Street, the former home of the 14th Ward Democratic Club, just a few hundred feet from Martin’s original location.
In February of 2002 a shooting took place outside of the new Martin’s Bar. This may have led to an apparent change of ownership, as by the summer of 2003 the building at 2461 South 7th Street was trading as A.J.’s Touch of Class Lounge.

Camden County Prosecutor Vincent P. Sarubbi announced that a Camden County Grand Jury today presented an indictment against Alton L. Marshall, a.k.a. Akeem Johnson, M/29, for First-Degree Murder and weapons offenses in connection with the Feb. 23, 2002, shooting death of Anthony Q. Mosely, M/22, in Camden, N.J.
Marshall, of the 1000 block of Lakeshore Drive in Camden, was arrested on a fugitive warrant on April 30, 2002, by Wilmington, Del., Police during a motor vehicle stop.
Mosely, of the 2400 block of Patton Street in Camden, suffered a gunshot wound at approximately 1:17 a.m. on Feb. 23 after he and a friend left Martin’s Bar at 7th Street and Morgan Boulevard. The two were walking toward the friend’s vehicle at 7th and Tulip streets when gunshots were fired.
Marshall is being held in the Camden County Correctional Facility in lieu of $400,000 bail, cash or bond.
Murder Suspect Held After Car Stop In Delaware

A city man suspected in the February murder of another Camden resident was arrested Tuesday night during a car stop in Wilmington, Del.
A computer check of people in the car revealed an outstanding warrant for Alton L. Marshall, 29, of the 1000 block of Lakeshore Drive, police said. He was being held Wednesday at Gander Hill Prison in Delaware on a fugitive from justice charge, awaiting extradition to New Jersey.
Marshall, also known as Akeem Johnson, was sought by police in the murder of Anthony Mosley, 22, on Feb. 23. Mosley was gunned down after he and a friend left Martin’s Bar at 7th Street and Morgan Boulevard, police said.
