Wood Street
Wood Street was a small street that ran west from Delaware Avenue to Point Street, between State and York Streets. The street first appears in Camden city directories in 1871. In 1947 there were 20 homes on Wood Street, and families still resided on the block into the mid-1980s. All of the buildings had been razed by 2003.

Stool Pigeons Ordered Brought Into Court
Camden Courier-Post —
Three women defendants in illicit liquor cases were given a four-day respite when arraigned in police court yesterday.
Judge Garfield Pancoast ruled that police raided the three places at which the women were arrested must produce in court the stool pigeons who made the “buys,” and continued the cases until Tuesday, August 14.
The defendants were Mrs. Lillie Ball, 1040 Segal street; Mrs. Louise Weber, 922 North Front street, and Mrs. Sarah Dowling, 7 Wood street. All were arrested after raids yesterday afternoon by Police Lieutenant Herbert Anderson, and all pleaded not guilty in court.

27 Wood Street
My husband’s mother Grace lived at 27 Wood Street—years 1914–1941, as a child until she married. Her grandparents, Phillip and Louisa Beck, along with Grace’s mother Ruth lived there in the 1900 Census. Ruth married Charles Wesley Hemphill, and my mother was born in 1914. Charles died a few years later, and Ruth married Charles B. Johnson and they were still living there into the 1960’s before moving to California.
