Lemuel Avenue is located in East Camden and appears to be named for Lemuel Horner, who owned a large tract of land in what became East Camden prior to 1900. The southwest corner of North 31st Street and Lemuel Avenue was once the site of the “starch works,” later occupied by the General Color factory. Following an environmental cleanup in the early 2000s, approximately thirty new homes were constructed by the Housing Authority of the City of Camden as part of its Baldwin’s Run redevelopment plan.

Woman Plans to Build Five E. Camden Houses

Four frame residences one-and-a-half stories tall will be erected early this year at 3310-12-14-16 Lemuel avenue by Mrs. Laura H. Todd.
Contracts for the construction of the houses were let this week to J. W. Todd, a relative of the owner of the property. The buildings will be 16 by 38 feet, will have asphalt roofs and will be heated by hot water systems.
