Private First Class William W. Yusk was the son of Joseph and Stella Yusk. Born in Pennsylvania in 1922, he had two older brothers, Allen and Anthony Yusk, born in 1916 and 1918. His early years were spent in New Brighton Borough, in Beaver County PA, where his parents owned a home at 1221 8th Avenue. At some point during the 1930s the family moved to 6241 Lincoln Avenue in Pennsauken NJ. William W. Yusk was a 1939 graduate of Moorestown High School. In 1940 the Yusk family lived at 6039 Woodruff Avenue in Pennsauken. Joseph Yusk was then working as an assistant foreman at the R.M. Hollingshead factory, and William Yusk was working as a clerk. He was unmarried when inducted into the Army.

William Yusk was drafted into the Army on June 11, 1942. He was assigned to the 8th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division. The 4th Infantry Division landed on Utah Beach during the June 6, 1944 D-Day landings in Normandy. After the beachhead was established, the division fought its way across the Cotentin Peninsula toward Cherbourg. William Yusk died of wounds received in action while serving during this fighting on June 20, 1944. He is buried at Cambridge American Cemetery in Cambridge, England.
