Introduction
Private First Class William T. Saunders was born in New Jersey in 1914 to William and Ada Saunders, who had come north from South Carolina. His father worked as a cook in a canning factory, and later as a farmer. William T. Saunders had left school to do farm work by April of 1930. In the late 1910s and early 1920s the family lived on Blue Anchor Road in Winslow Township. They had moved to Old Egg Harbor Road at Brooklyn-Cedarbrook Road in Winslow Township by April of 1930. William T. Saunders was unmarried when he was inducted into the United States Army at Camden NJ on March 8, 1942.
Private Saunders went overseas with the 366th Infantry Regiment, 92nd Infantry Division. He was reported as missing in action in Italy during February of 1945. A finding of death was issued for him on February 11, 1946. His name is inscribed on the Tablets of the Missing at Florence American Cemetery in Florence, Italy.
