Introduction
Private First Class William J. Carvell was the son of John D. and Pearl Carvell of 2307 South Seventh Street in Camden NJ. He attended school in Camden and, prior to his enlistment, worked for a chain grocery store. He was 20 years old at the time of his death.
William J. Carvell served with the 60th Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division. He was killed in action in Normandy on June 15, 1944. His death was reported in the September 19, 1944 edition of the Camden Courier-Post. His body was returned to the United States in the spring of 1948 and he was buried at New Camden Cemetery on May 22, 1948.
He was survived by his parents, two sisters, Margaret and Norma, and a brother, Lawrence Carvell.

Services for Pvt. William J. Carvell will be held at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Carvell, 2307 South Seventh street, Saturday at 11 a. m. Friends may call Friday night. Full military honors will be accorded by the Army and Navy Union. Burial will be at the New Camden cemetery.
Private Carvell, who was attached to Company B, 16 Infantry, Ninth Division, was killed in Normandy June 15, 1944. He was 20. Previous to his enlistment, he worked for a chain grocery store here.
Also surviving are two sisters, Margaret and Norma, and a brother, Lawrence.
