Biography
Private First Class William I. Smith Jr. was born in 1924 to William and Alice Smith. The Smith family was renting a home at 2414 4th Avenue in Woodlynne, NJ. William Sr. was a driver for an ice and coal company. William Smith was inducted into the U.S. Army and assigned to the 467th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion. This unit landed in France on D-Day and fought in five major campaigns. William Smith died while serving in Germany on May 5, 1945. He was survived by his parents, brother David T., and an uncle, Thomas F. Smith.
