Seaman Second Class William Henry McFadden III was a member of the crew of USS Juneau (CL-52), an Atlanta-class light cruiser. USS Juneau was struck by a Japanese torpedo on November 13, 1942, during the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal, and sank within twenty seconds. Of her crew of approximately 700 men, only 10 survived. The sinking is also remembered as the event in which five brothers from Waterloo, Iowa — the five Sullivan brothers — lost their lives.
William H. McFadden III is memorialized on the War Memorial on Haddon Avenue in Westmont (Haddon Township), NJ.
