Introduction
WILLIAM BOODY and his twin brother Harry were born on October 15, 1919 to Harry C. and Anna Boody. His father was a carpenter. When the 1920 Census was taken the family lived at 300 Kaighn Avenue. There were six older sisters at home, Lida, Lillian, Myrtle, Mildred, Beatrice and Charlotte. Their next door neighbor at that time at 300 Kaighn Avenue was Dr. Rowland Haines. By 1924 the Boody family had moved one block south, to 334 Liberty Street. They remained at that address through 1929. The Boody family had moved to 301 Liberty Street by the late 1930s, and were still at that address as late as 1947.
William Boody was a student at Camden High School and president of the Art Club there when he drew a poster for the 1939 World’s Fair that won him a $50 scholarship. The poster was to have been displayed with the work of other New Jersey art students at the Fair. Unfortunately, the building burned down, the fire taking Boody’s poster and those of the other students with it.
William Boody’s last years were spent in Oregon. Last a resident of Bend, he passed away on October 9, 1994.
