Introduction
Wendela E. Jones was born in Sweden around 1873. Her family came to America in 1879. She married Thomas Jones around 1891. The Jones family lived 403 South 5th Street at the time of the 1920 census. 1930 found them living in Woodlynne, but they moved back to Camden soon after, to 426 Carteret Street, where she was living in 1934.
Mrs. Jones was a charter member of the women’s Moose organization in Camden, the Women’s Chapter of Mooseheart Legion No. 385. She was an officer in that organization, and chaired at different times many of its committees.
Wendela Jones had been elected to lead the Mooseheart Legion’s Mothers Day Parade on May 13, 1934. The parade originated at the Moose Lodge at 8th & Market Streets. While leading the parade, she suffered a heart attack at Carman. Taken in a taxicab to her home at 426 Carteret Street, she died fifteen minutes after her reaching home.
Wendela Jones was survived by her husband, son Harry, and daughter Mrs. Marion Allen.
Parade Head Dies in Mother's March

Stricken during the Mother’s Day parade of the Women’s Chapter of Mooseheart Legion, No. 385, to which she had been elected captain of the marching club a short time before, Mrs. Wendela E. Jones, 60, was stricken and died before her first personally conducted march reached its destination Sunday night.
The parade formed at the Moose Home, Eighth and Market streets, and Mrs. Jones suffered a heart attack at Carman and Stevens streets. She was rushed in a taxicab to her home at 426 Carteret Street, and died fifteen minutes later, as her order was paying its tribute to Mother at St. John’s Episcopal church.
She had been active since the formation of the woman’s Moose organization in Camden and was a charter member. She was a past Senior Re-chairwoman of its social committee for seven years, and head of many important committees.
She was a member also of the Fraternal Order of Beavers, No. 159, and was active in the affairs of that organization.
She was a faithful attendant at the First Methodist Church, and the pastor, the Rev. George W. Yard, will conduct her funeral services at her home at 1 p. m. Thursday. Burial will be in Northwood cemetery.
Mrs. Jones is survived by her husband, Thomas Jones, chief engineer of the John Dobson estate of Philadelphia, one son, Harry Jones, 2943 Congress avenue, Fairview, Camden, and a daughter, Mrs. Marion Allen, who lives at the Carteret street address with her father.
