Introduction

Private First Class Walter Reis was born in 1918 to Fred C. and Elizabeth Reis of what is now Lindenwold NJ. In 1920 his father was a self-employed bricklayer. Walter Reis was drafted into the United States Army in November of 1942. He qualified for flight duty, and received training in Chicago IL in February of 1943. He was killed on December 2, 1944, in a plane crash near Beeville TX, at the age of 25. He was survived by his parents; his wife, Emma C. Prettyman Reis, of Gloucester City NJ; a son, Walter Reis Jr., born in November of 1942; one brother; and two sisters. The death of Walter Reis was reported in the Camden Courier-Post in February of 1945.
