Introduction
Virginia A. Johnston was born around 1875 at 3804 Federal Street in Stockton Township (later part of Camden). She lived at that address her entire life until illness forced her to leave four years before her death.
Miss Johnston worked for many years as a saleswoman at the Starkweather Department Store at Thirty-fourth and Federal Streets. She was a charter member of Rosedale Baptist Church. She retired from her position to keep house for her father, James P. Johnson, a Civil War veteran.
Virginia A. Johnston died on March 4, 1950, and was buried in New Camden Cemetery.

Miss Virginia A. Johnston, 74, formerly of 3804 Federal street, died Saturday in Lakeland General hospital. Born at the Federal street address, Miss Johnston lived there until her illness began four years ago. She was employed for many years as a sales-lady at the old Starkweather’s department store, Thirty-fourth and Federal streets, until she retired to keep house for her father, the late James P. Johnson, Civil War veteran. Surviving are three brothers, Clarence F., of Camden, Richmond S., Philadelphia and Noble R., Scranton, Pa. The Rev. Raymond R. Marlow, pastor of Rosedale Baptist Church, of which Miss Johnston was a charter member, will conduct services Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Mason E. Bradley funeral home, 3303 Federal street, where friends may call Monday night. Burial will be in the New Camden cemetery.
