Introduction
Private Stephen A. Grabovich was born in Pennsylvania in 1919, the oldest child of Theodore and Margaret Rose Grabovich. Both his parents had emigrated from the former empire of Austria-Hungary, his father from what became Yugoslavia, his mother from Hungary. The elder Grabovich worked as a carpenter, building houses. The Graboviches had lived in Virginia for a time before Stephen was born, and by 1924 the family had moved to New Jersey. In 1930 the family owned a home on Washington Avenue in Magnolia NJ. Sadly, Margaret Rose Grabovich died in 1934, and Theodore Grabovich the following year. They were buried at New St. Mary's Cemetery in Bellmawr NJ.
Stephen Grabovich was a graduate of Haddon Heights High School in Haddon Heights NJ. He had been an employee of the White Tower Corporation in Camden NJ for five years prior to entering the Army. He was then living at 1907 Fairmount Street in Philadelphia. He had been sent overseas in December of 1944, and was killed in action shortly after arriving in Belgium, on January 18, 1945.
Private Grabovich was survived by his wife Mildred and daughters Theodora Rose and Betty Ann, of Galax, Grayson County, VA, his sister Mrs. Martha Reid, and two younger brothers in the military, Theodore and John Grabovich.
Stephen Grabovich was brought home after the war, and he was buried next to his parents.

Solemn requiem Mass for Pvt. Stephen A. Grabovich, formerly of Magnolia and later of 1907 Fairmount avenue, Philadelphia, will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. Relatives and friends will meet at 9 a.m. in the funeral home of Frank J. Leonard, 1451 Broadway, where friends may call tomorrow night. Burial will be in New St. Mary's cemetery.
Private Grabovich was killed in action in Belgium on Jan. 13, 1945, while serving in the 36th Armored Infantry Regiment. He was a graduate of Haddon Heights High school and was employed by White Tower Corp. five years prior to entering the Army.
Surviving are two daughters, Theodora and Betty Ann, both of Virginia; two brothers, John and Theodore both of Philadelphia; and a sister, Mrs. Martha Reid, also Philadelphia.
