Introduction
Technician Fifth Class Samuel French was the son of James C. and Sarah French. James and Sarah French had both come to America from Ireland in the early 1910s. The family originally lived in Pennsylvania, moving to Delaware Township NJ in the early 1920s. The family lived at 27 State Street in Delaware Township, which is now known as Cherry Hill. He attended Merchantville High School and Camden County Vocational School in Pennsauken NJ, and had worked at the John R. Evans Company leather factory prior to entering the Army on March 8, 1942.
A member of Company B, 121st Infantry Regiment, Samuel French was killed in action in France on August 11, 1944, at the age of 20. His regiment had been temporarily attached to the 83rd Infantry Division at the time. He was reported as missing in action in the November 3, 1944, edition of the Camden Courier-Post, and was reported as killed in action in the February 4, 1945, edition.

FUNERAL SET FRIDAY FOR T/5 FRENCH
Services for T/5 Samuel S. French will be held Friday at 2 p. m. in the Calvary Bible Protestant Church, Twenty-third and High streets, of which he was a member. The Rev. Newton C. Conant, pastor of the church, will officiate. Friends are invited to attend the services. Burial will be in Bethel Memorial park under direction of the Stephenson funeral home, of Merchantville.
Military rites will be conducted by Frederick W. Grigg post 68, American Legion, of Merchantville.
The soldier, a member of Company B, 121st Infantry, Eighth army, was killed in action in France Aug. 11, 1944, at the age of 20. He entered the service March 8, 1942, and went overseas April 9, 1944.
Born in Merchantville, he resided with his parents at 27 State street in the borough. He attended Merchantville High school and the Camden County Vocational school. He was employed by the John R. Evans Co.
Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James C. French, of the State street address; a sister, Mrs. Elmer A. Goodman Jr., Merchantville, and three brothers, William J., Burlington; James C., Merchantville, and Albert, now in the army and stationed at Edgewood, Md. His mother is a past president of the auxiliary of Grigg post and his sister is present vice president of the group.
