Introduction
Technician Fifth Class Samuel Rodio was originally from Winslow Township NJ. Born in 1913 and familiarly known as “Taxi,” he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Rodio, of Winslow. He was working for the DuPont Cable Company in South River NJ, and was living with his wife in nearby Sayreville when the Army called on March 18, 1944. He shipped out to Europe in September of 1944 and was assigned to an artillery unit.
Samuel Rodio was killed in action on February 18, 1945 in Germany at the age of 31, while serving with the Signal Corps. He was survived by his wife Mildred, of Sayreville NJ, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Rodio of Winslow Township NJ. He also was survived by his brothers John, who was serving in the Marine Corps, Leon, who was in the Navy, Anthony, and Joseph, and sisters Anna, Nickie, Marjorie, Louise, and Angelina. His death was reported in the February 28, 1945 edition of the Camden Courier-Post.
Samuel Rodio was brought home in April of 1949, and he was buried in Beverly National Cemetery in Beverly NJ on April 22, 1949.

Military rites for T/5 Samuel Rodio, Hall street, Winslow, were held today in the U.S. National cemetery, Beverly. He entered the service in March, 1944, served with the Signal Corps and was killed in action Feb. 16, 1945, in Germany at the age of 31. Surviving are his widow, Mildred, Perth Amboy; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Rodio, Winslow; four brothers, Joseph and John Jr., both Hammonton; Anthony, Camden, and Leon, Winslow, and five sisters, Anna and Nickie Rodio, both Winslow; Mrs. Louise Ranere, Hammonton; Mrs. Marjie Goller, Philadelphia, and Mrs. Angelina Pitera, Jersey City.
