Biography

Roy F. Brucks was born in Virginia in 1914. He was a graduate of Merchantville High School. He lived at 101 Barlow Avenue in Delaware Township (now Cherry Hill), New Jersey, and managed a gas station at 34th and Federal Streets in Camden.

Roy Brucks joined the United States Merchant Marine in January 1943. He sailed aboard the tug SS Titan. His wife Jane was serving in the Women's Army Corps (WAC) and was stationed in Newark, New Jersey at the time of his death. His parents were living in Beach Haven, New Jersey.

On July 27, 1943, the SS Titan sank off the Texas coast in a sudden hurricane. Roy Brucks drowned while attempting to swim to shore. He was 29 years old.
